I'll try to keep this brief.
I get cable TV from virgin media, but I don't watch it because you need a TV licence (which I don't have). Instead I watch stuff on iPlayer or DVDs from the library.
Now, you don't need a TV licence to watch iPlayer because it is not broadcast live.
OK, now, given that I pay for cable TV from virgin, and virgin show Lost, am I justified in downloading Lost from a (ahem) "non legitimate source" and watching after broadcast?
